I found 2 typos in man 5 periodic

dir_show_badconfig
[cut]
  the default to ``YES'', ``YES''
             and ``NO'' respectively.

daily_clean_msgs_enable
             (bool) Set to ``YES'' if you old system messages to be purged.

Fix: 

Change it to: they default to
and: if you wish old systems messages to be purged
