BIND is installed from the sources of ISC.  If we patch the source of
named.8 in the FreeBSD tree, then this file will have to be manually
merged each time a new named release comes out.

Do you think you could contact the named developers and ask them to
make the change to the official sources?  This way, the next time an
import of named is done, FreeBSD will have this change too :)))

The suggested change, is a *very* nice idea, BTW.

Yes.

Maybe I'll even ask them to put some bug reporting contact info into
their man pages.

Thanks for the politeness of your rejection of my PR.  It still gripes
me that there isn't an easier way to determine where to send PRs, but
your "make nice" words helped me stay mellow (compared to the rude dude
that wrote a previous rejection).

BIND's original source and imported in FreeBSD cleanly.

There already is a bug reporting contact in the BIND documentation.
Look at /usr/share/doc/bind/html/, there is a 'Bug Reports and Comments'
section at the bottom, which lists a bind-bugs@isc.org address :)
