It doesn't look like anyone has any objections. Is someone from the
web team interested in coordinating this?

Two questions. First of all, is there a "FreeBSD"-only section of
the BSDMall that we can link to? I think there could be some
confusion if someone follows the link and finds a bunch of NetBSD or
Darwin promotions. Secondly, this would set a precedent that might
come back to haunt us later. We already have the link for Daemonnews
which is the same organization and has lots of BSDMall products for
sale in the side bar of the main page. I guess I'm being optimistic
in thinking that our available space could be flooded by different BSD
organizations or business units but it still seems we should be
careful. ;)

3th question: what is the status of the FreeBSDMall? Is
www.freebsdmall.com still supported by WindRiver?

;)

www.freebsdmall.com was around long before Wind River became
interested in FreeBSD and it will be around long after Wind River has
finished the divestment of FreeBSD.

WRS announced that it was divesting its FreeBSD interests, and to that
end it solicited proposals from a number of businesses in the FreeBSD
and open-source arena to find the best home for the business. All of
the proposals that were received were of a high quality but the
successor company has not been identified yet. An announcement will
be made once everything is official. For the moment, not even the
employees know the names of the different companies involved.

Regardless of which company is actually sponsoring the mall next
month, the products and some number of the employees will continue to
make and sell FreeBSD related products and services. In the last few
weeks even, new products have been added to www.freebsdmall.com.

The FreeBSDMall still has boxed products at all of the major American
computer retail stores (CompUSA, Fry's, etc) and is by several orders
of magnitude the largest commercial distributor of FreeBSD software.

Walnut Creek CDROM and BSDi donated hundreds of thousands of dollars
of money and hardware to the FreeBSD Project and nothing is going to
change as Wind River exits the business. If anything, the FreeBSDMall
business will be going back to its roots as a Walnut Creek CDROM-like
business more in touch with the community.

I think thats about all I know at the moment. For the next several
months I will still be employed by Wind River. Eventually a different
name will be on my paychecks but I will still be doing the same job
I've been doing since 1997 at Walnut Creek CDROM.

Hi.

There is a FreeBSD specific section on BSDMall.
http://www.bsdmall.com/freebsd.html As all of you know, Daemon News is
very committed to FreeBSD. We are going to support FreeBSD, and have
stepped up to fill in the gap that is currently there. We don't know
what WRS is up to, however we are going to produce FreeBSD on CDs
starting with release 4.5. We are also taking CD subscriptions like
Walnut Creek did. We have already committed to this, and will be doing
it regardless of what WRS decides.

I have attached a related patch to this. (Same issue, different place.)

We are working on getting more FreeBSD specific merchandise.

I applied most of your patch, Chris. I don't think that we want to
list individual products or promotions in this area, it is just
contact information for resellers and distributors, so I left out the
link to CD subscriptions. If we add the link for Daemonnews I think
we will have to add one for everyone else and then this section will
just start to look a lot more commercial than I'd like. Does this
sound reasonable? (may take up to 12 hours before the website is
updated).

Hi,

Murray, thanks for patching that. I think it looks good the way you did
it.

I realized that I typoed the general FreeBSD link to BSDmall.com that I
listed, I cut n pasted the FreeBSD 4.4 link instead, which was what I
used in the patch.

The real link for FreeBSD in general on bsdmall.com is
http://www.bsdmall.com/freebsd1.html

Thanks.
