Description Wolfram Schneider freebsd_committer freebsd_triage 2001-12-28 13:10:01 UTC
The web site www.bsdcon.com (alias www.bsdcon.org) is
dead.

Fix:

Contact Wind River Systems and ask why the host is down.

The real home page for BSDCON is
http://www.usenix.org/events/bsdcon02
so www.bsdcon.org should be a simple virtual webserver
with a redirect to the real home page.

IMHO the domains should be maintained by the FreeBSD Project
or an other non-profit organization (FreeBSD Foundation, Usenix).

BTW, the domains bsdcon.com and bsdcon.org
expires in 3 weeks!

My patch from the 2 dead links (pr 33255) can be modified to alter this
from the projects page, please look into it... If I need to, i'll suply
another patch for that page, and the news page which will close both of
your pr's

I've started dialogs with several people both inside and outside of
Wind River to resolve this.

Well, Usenix is hardly a non-profit, so I wouldn't have listed them
with the FreeBSD Foundation above.

Apparently, someone at WRS did eventually re-register the domains, so
the worst situation (domain grabbed by a squatter) was avoided.

It's not clear to me at this point if Usenix is even going to sponsor
the next BSDCon, so IMHO the domain is in as good of hands with WRS as
it is with Usenix, Apple, or any other BSD friendly organization.
