Installed Xfree86 V 4 from ports.

running xf86cfg the configuration screen shows then goes away.
 It shows "core dumped on screen."

How-To-Repeat: ./xf86cfg

Have you tried it recently?  It seems to work for me now with the new 
XFree86 4.20 metaport
