Summary: Handbook lacks information about hardware RAID

Description Murray Stokely freebsd_committer freebsd_triage 2002-04-04 07:30:01 UTC
Section 12.7.2 of the Handbook contains 2 sentences of information
about hardware RAID. This should be expanded to talk about the
management utilities that are available for FreeBSD (3ware, adaptec?),
and the features that they support. This information is necessary so
that users get a complete picture of the state of hardware / software
RAID, so comparisons can be made with Vinum and CCD, and tradeoffs are
made apparent.

We should talk about classes of controllers and the functionality they
provide, specific hardware notes belong in the , well, hardware
notes. ;)

Fix:

Pester Mike Smith and others about the driver / management
functionality, and document it better.
How-To-Repeat:
Try to find out which RAID controllers have management utilities for FreeBSD.

Was just given a RAID card to play with. Perhaps I can close this.

Based on the Promise IDE RAID controller, I have added a better RAID section,
although its not perfect. Without all the correct materials I hope others
will follow my lead and add more information.

What do you think, Murray? Feedback state applied, may I close this?
