Bug 37634

Summary: FTP site problem - packages link points to nonexistent path
Product: Base System Reporter: Jay Geeseman <jay>
Component: miscAssignee: freebsd-bugs (Nobody) <bugs>
Status: Closed FIXED
Severity: Affects Only Me
Priority: Normal
Version: 4.3-RELEASE
Hardware: Any
OS: Any

Description Jay Geeseman 2002-05-01 16:40:03 UTC
When using /stand/sysinstall, attempting to use the package installation tool (configure, then packages) via FTP, the index file cannot be found.

The program sends this to the ftp server:
CWD pub/FreeBSD/releases/i386
CWD 4.3-RELEASE
RETR packages/INDEX

The packages folder is a link to another folder, but it is pointing to a folder that does not exist, thus rendering the tool useless.

Fix:

fix the symbolic link
How-To-Repeat: Just try to use the packages tool in 4.3

This problem seems to have been solved for every release except 4.5-RELEASE.

FreeBSD's FTP servers only carry recent releases of FreeBSD. This
includes packages. Therefore, packages for older releases are no longer
available. Can you reproduce this problem with newer a release?

Thanks for your report.
