Description David Syphers 2002-07-06 04:10:04 UTC
The FAQ, in section 11.16, says, "Note that VESA support requires the VM86 kernel option to be compiled into the kernel." VM86 was made a standard component of the kernel by rev. 1.115 to sys/conf/options.i386 on June 1, 1999, and is no longer a kernel option.

Fix:

Remove reference to the VM86 option, or mention it in conjuction with a comment that it is only needed on old systems.
How-To-Repeat: See, for example, http://www.freebsd.org/doc/en_US.ISO8859-1/books/faq/x.html#INSTALL-SPLASH
