It's curious that this ever built due to this problem, but it 
certainly *has* built, since I'm running it on a few computers without 
any problems.  Anyway, I just upgraded dict and dictd to 1.8.0, which 
didn't build because of this problem, and committed a patch almost 
identical to yours.  Please try 1.8.0 and let me know if you have any 
problems.
