	using the 5.2rc1 boot only iso image, it locks up after the ACPI stuff

Try entering debug.acpi.disabled="timer" in /boot/loader.conf or at the 
loader prompt.  Also, try a more recent snapshot from 
snapshots.jp.freebsd.org.
