	The system will not boot when ACPI is disabled at boot.

How-To-Repeat: 	Install FreeBSD 5.x on the above listed Sony, disable ACPI and see the
	following panic messages:

Fatial trap 9: general protection falut while in kernel mode
cpuid = 0; apic id = 00
instruction pointer      = 0x58:0x8a5b
stack pointer            = 0x10:0xeb8
frame pointer            = 0x10:0xf0e
code segment             = base rxc00f0000, limit 0xfffff, type 0x1b
                         = DPL 0, pres 1, def32 1, gran 1
processor eflags         = interrupt enabpled, IOPL = 0
current process          = 0 (swapper)
trap number              = 9
panic: general protection fault
cpuid = 0;
Uptime: 1s

- Did you try disabling the APIC at the loader prompt?

Right when it tries to start /sbin/init.

Yes.

I have not tried it since I submitted the ticket.  That will take a bit
of time.

Yes.

Yes it still happens with 5.3-BETA6 right a the point it *would*
be probing for the APCI hardware.
