The startup scrpit of exim situated under /usr/local/etc/rc.d/ doesn't seem to work at all. Neither executing it with the 'start' option doesen't start exim at all, nor the 'stop' option stosp it.

Didn't the install message say 
Don't forget to add 'exim_enable="YES"' to rc.conf(5) 
?
