Bug 76666

Summary: Booting and Sound are mutually exclusive on Toshiba laptops in 5.x
Product: Base System Reporter: Josh Ockert <torstenvl>
Component: i386Assignee: freebsd-i386 (Nobody) <i386>
Status: Closed FIXED
Severity: Affects Only Me
Priority: Normal
Version: 5.3-RELEASE
Hardware: Any
OS: Any

Description Josh Ockert 2005-01-25 15:10:19 UTC
Many Toshiba laptops won't boot without hw.pci.enable_io_modes=0 set, in which case inserting the sound driver (on my machine) crashes the system.

Please see: http://lists.freebsd.org/pipermail/freebsd-questions/2004-December/069799.html

Fix:

Workaround: use 4.x
How-To-Repeat: Install FreeBSD 5.3 on a Toshiba laptop (such as an A45-S120) with hw.pci.enable_io_modes=0 and then try inserting the sound driver.

To submitter: Are you able to confirm if this is fixed on more
recent versions of FreeBSD? I used to have this same problem on
my Toshiba laptop, but it was fixed for me a few years ago now.
