Description James A. Peltier 2005-07-05 19:00:36 UTC
I am unable to boot into the FreeBSD -current July 2nd, 2005 6.0 snapshot.
Asus P4S8X BIOS 1005
PNP Disabled PIC config APIC (PIC doesn't work either)
512MB RAM
Teac 4x CDRW PATA
Toshiba DVD-ROM PATA
Quantum 10GB IDE PATA
Seagate 80GB SATA (Chanel 0)
Seagate 120GB Serial ATA (Channel 1)
Qlogic 12160 SCSI HBA
3 x 36.4 GB Seagate U320 SCSI drives

System boots to cd-rom and hard disk detection stops booting after
detecting Serial ATA devices. Tried with default boot and with ACPI
disabled. Used to boot with 5.2.1 before I moved to linux. System boots
fine with Windows and Kubuntu GNU/Linux

Added from misfiled pending/83165:

Because I can't install the FreeBSD OS and this is my
only machine is there any other way I can provide you
with more details as to the problem. If there is a
specific area that would be most useful please let me know.

To submitter: Is this still a problem with more recent versions of FreeBSD?

FreeBSD 6.2 was able to boot to the installer only when I did not have
ACPI turned on (option 2 in the installer) When booting with ACPI the
system hung at the same place. I did try FreeBSD 200706 snapshot and it
failed to get past the loading of my ISP 1080 Qlogic controllers,
failing with an unable to load firmware isp_1080. I did not go through
a full install as I have far too much valuable data currently to fully
test it.

Over to -acpi - machine boots when ACPI is disabled
