FreeBSD 5.4 release cannot find this 100GB hard drive that eats both IDE naps just for itself. Debian, currently installed, boots on it with lots of timeouts and the following messages: Kernel command line: root=/dev/hda1 ro ide0: BM-DMA at 0xb800-0xb807, BIOS settings: hda:DMA, hdb:pio hda: IC35L120AVVA07-0, ATA DISK drive hda: max request size: 128KiB hda: 241254720 sectors (123522 MB) w/1863KiB Cache, CHS=65535/16/63, UDMA(100) /dev/ide/host0/bus0/target0/lun0:<4>hda: dma_timer_expiry: dma status == 0x21 hda: DMA timeout error hda: dma timeout error: status=0x58 { DriveReady SeekComplete DataRequest } hda: dma_timer_expiry: dma status == 0x21 hda: DMA timeout error hda: dma timeout error: status=0x58 { DriveReady SeekComplete DataRequest } hda: dma_timer_expiry: dma status == 0x21 hda: DMA timeout error hda: dma timeout error: status=0x58 { DriveReady SeekComplete DataRequest } hda: dma_timer_expiry: dma status == 0x21 hda: DMA timeout error hda: dma timeout error: status=0x58 { DriveReady SeekComplete DataRequest } Adding 1951888k swap on /dev/hda2. Priority:-1 extents:1 EXT3 FS on hda1, internal journal EXT3 FS on hda3, internal journal OpenBSD also installs and boots that hard drive with DMA timeouts, falling back to the compatible mode. FreeBSD cannot install on the hard drive at all, because it cannot write on it. I'd like to install FreeBSD on that machine but so far i'm stuck with Linux because of that problem. Fix: i wish How-To-Repeat: Try to install 5.4 on that hard drive
