Bug 85812

Summary: "Rebooting..." on serial console appears garbled
Product: Base System Reporter: James O'Gorman <james>
Component: amd64Assignee: freebsd-amd64 (Nobody) <amd64>
Status: Closed FIXED
Severity: Affects Only Me
Priority: Normal
Version: 6.0-BETA4
Hardware: Any
OS: Any

Description James O'Gorman 2005-09-06 23:30:09 UTC
When using a serial console on the amd64 version of 6.0-BETA, when executing a `shutdown -r now`, the text that should say "Rebooting..." appears garbled on the serial console. This does not happen on the i386 version of 6.0-BETA4

Fix:

Unknown as yet...
How-To-Repeat: Install 6.0-BETA (any), amd64, enable serial console by running `echo -Dh > /boot.config` and reboot. When serial console has been verified as working, run a reboot or shutdown command and observe the serial console.

Having just realised I still have this PR open, I do wonder whether it's
more to do with my Dell server (or its BIOS) than FreeBSD itself; when
booting loader seems to redraw the entire screen for every new
character, or during the autoboot countdown (which is very slow over
9600 baud connection!)

As I put very little information in the PR and it's not a huge issue,
this can probably be closed.
