I downloaded the isos images of 6.1 RC 2
I don't ran startx:
Fatal server error: xf86EnableIO: Failed to open /dev/io for extended I/O(EE) No devices detected

the /dev/io exists
Is a clean install since 0

I had the same problem on a new clean install of 6.0.  Hardware is 
Compaq Deskpro based on the Intel 440BX chip set.  I got the same error 
with the Xorg and the XFree86-4 servers.
