While using growisofs from dvd+rw-tools 7.0.....
I get output of.....

I have entries in /var/log/messages of.....

Fix: 

I thought I saw an unsupported patch for another dvd burner on the
internet, but I didn't try it.
How-To-Repeat: run growisofs or cdrecord for a dvd.
