After a recent kernel upgrade TSM (Tivoli Storage Manager) running under the Linux emulation of FreeBSD suddently stopped working. Whenever I start the client I end up with the following error messages: ANS1228E Sending of object '/TSM-Backup/var' failed ANS1063E The specified path is not a valid file system or logical volume name. On the web I found indications that others are having problems too - see http://unix.derkeiler.com/Mailing-Lists/FreeBSD/current/2006-08/msg00458.html There I found a post by Paul Mather from August 2006 (!) describing the exact same problems under 7-CURRENT that I'm now facing under 6-STABLE. So I contacted Paul and he informed me that a patch went in for FreeBSD 6 by August 2007 that could be the reason for my problems: http://www.freebsd.org/cgi/cvsweb.cgi/src/sys/compat/linux/?only_with_tag=RELENG_ 6 Looks like the implementation formerly under 7-CURRENT has been back- ported to 6-STABLE (?) I've already contacted Boris Samorodov (bsam <at> freebsd.org> and Alexander Leidinger (netchild <at> freebsd.org) who advised me to file a PR. To further track things down I tried with different versions of the kernel sourcecode, i.e. cvs-ing sources with "*default date=..." - here is what I found out: Kernel sources as per TSM running? Original Installation CD yes 2007.08.01.12.00.00 yes 2007.08.20.12.00.00 yes 2007.08.25.12.00.00 yes 2007.09.01.12.00.00 NO today NO So it seems that a kernel change done between August 25 and September 1 2007 is the cause of the problem. Please note that nothing else has been changed on the system - only the kernel has been upgraded. Also note that I've been using TSM under FreeBSD for years starting with 5.x and now at 6.2 without any problems whatsoever. Regards, -ewald How-To-Repeat: Problem is 100% reproducible.
Responsible Changed From-To: freebsd-bugs->freebsd-emulation Over to maintainer(s).
State Changed From-To: open->closed This is fixed in RELENG_6 and RELENG_6_3 now.
