Install on U60: hangs after installing all sets. (This hardware has run earlier FBSD) On reboot, won't boot because no kernel installed. Top shows no active tasks apart from top and the shell. How-To-Repeat: Three consecutive installs on U60 failed at the same place.

Verify the MD5 sum of the ISO image, it may have been corrupted during download. Kris
7.0-RC1 installs without the problem. However, I used OpenBSD to zero the entire label before attemting the install, so that may have been the fix. I still think that FreeBSD disklabel needs a command to zap the label area and write a fresh boot one, unconditionally and immediately. If nothing else it removes a host of unknowns from bug reports like this! Andrew -- Using Opera's revolutionary e-mail client: http://www.opera.com/mail/
Hi, I'm not sure if this helps, but here goes... I have just installed 7.0-RELEASE in an identical way to your original PR. The system is an Ultra-60 dual 450mhz cpu, 2GB ram, dual 18GB SCSI disks. I installed from the 7.0-RELEASE bootonly ISO, and used FTP install from ftp2.uk.freebsd.org. I installed minimal distribution set only. Prior to install, the system had a working copy of Solaris 10 with mirroring. Install went through normally without any hangs. Thanks, Daniel.
State Changed From-To: open->closed A later install seems to have fixed the problem, and others were not able to duplicate the failure, so I can't see a compelling reason to leave this one open.
