Comment 2 Harrison Grundy 2008-01-11 22:48:32 UTC
I have seen the same behavior on a Prism 2.5 system I've got.

The NDISulator driver works fine, though.
Comment 3 jwolz1 2008-03-11 13:04:19 UTC
I can confirm this bug with a Prism3 chipset and FreeBSD 7.0-RELEASE.

The relevant dmesg output is:
wi0: <Intersil Prism3> mem 0xe4006000-0xe4006fff irq 18 at device 11.0 on pci0
wi0: [ITHREAD]
wi0: using RF:PRISM3(Mini-PCI)
wi0: Intersil Firmware: Primary (1.1.1), Station (1.5.6)
wi0: Ethernet address: 00:02:8a:a0:8a:96

"ifconfig wi0 up scan" will sometimes "complete" in a few seconds and
sometimes take a few minutes but will never show any APs.

An interesting aspect is that if I clear the ssid with "ifconfig wi0
ssid -" and take the interface up and down repeatedly sometimes the
ssid of one AP will show up in ifconfig, but there will still be "no
carrier" (unfortunately I don't know how reproduce this effect
reliably).
Comment 4 jwolz1 2008-03-28 10:45:53 UTC
I recently did some more experimenting and found an workaround that
works for me ("ifconfig scan" still doesn' work):

When I use an old ISC dhclient binary from FreeBSD 5 which ignores the
"no carrier" status and sends the DHCP requests anyway,
I get an IP address from the router and ifconfig shows "status:
associated" afterwards. (and the network works just fine)

Manually setting the IP address seems not work, however (but this
might be also my router...).
