Instead of duplicating Takao TAGAMI's extensive report I will add
two data points and kgdb output. I'm running virtualbox-3.0.51.r22902.

1) It does not panic my uniprocessor laptop (FreeBSD 7.2 i386) where
I use VirtualBox daily.

2) The panic happens, but not always, on my quad-core machine
(FreeBSD 7.1 i386). I have one sample of kgdb output at the end.
This may be a null (function) pointer.

In the case that the machine survives "kldload vboxdrv", I can use
VirtualBox without any trouble.

If more information is needed then I will be happy to share it.

Below is a debugger transcript after compiling my 7.1/i386 kernel
with ddb support. This shows that at the time of the panic, the
kernel stack looks very much what is discussed in:

http://lists.freebsd.org/pipermail/freebsd-current/2009-July/008901.html

Unfortunately the patch referenced in that article does not apply
to FreeBSD 7.1 (or 7.2). I'll look at FreeBSD 8.0 in a couple days.

This patch is already included in FreeBSD 8.0-RC1 and makes
significant changes in the way that interrupts are managed.

In a quick test with the 8.0-RC1 kernel and virtualbox-3.0.51.r22902_1,
"kldload vboxdrv" did not lock up the system in 20 iterations of
kldload and kldunload (for this quick test I kept FreeBSD 7.1
user-land, but I recompiled VirtualBox with the 8.0-RC1 "/sys/sys",
"/usr/include/sys" and "/usr/include/machine" header files).
