Description Diana Allen 2010-01-05 05:10:00 UTC
Download "lists" as a "live" download of approximately 224MB.
WILL NOT RUN FROM CD,
Insists on Installing.

Fix:

Remove "installer" and replace with a "run from CD program."
How-To-Repeat: Download program ISO.
Make CD from image.
TRY to run from CD.

This does not sound i386-specific.

Take.

The 'livefs' CD does run the installer (sysinstall) as a front-end, but
instead of the files needed to install a system, it has a 'live' filesystem
which can be accessed via the FixIt menu. That is, once you have a FixIt shell
running you can run all the base system FreeBSD utilities from the CD.

The installer INSISTS on partitioning the HD BEFORE proceeding! THIS does NOT
constitute an "acceptable" "live" CD program from MY point of view!

Actually, I do not remember whether there was a "fix it" on the menu or not.
I just know that there was NO information referring me to the "fix it" entry,
and that starting at the top of the menu wanted to partition and install.
Perhaps, you should CHANGE the program to provide "live" directly, and ONLY
call the "installer" for installs! THIS is what ALL the other "live" programs
do!
When it would NOT run "live" I threw the download disc away since I did NOT
want to do an install at that time, and therefore have no way to check it.
(Note that I have over 150 different versions of Linux, going back at least 10
years, and did NOT need to keep something that was obviously NOT working as it
should have, for whatever reason; INCLUDING LACK OF INSTRUCTIONS!)
