I try to install 8.0-RELEASE-i386-dvd1.iso on my machine. It correctly boots from burned DVD image. The SATA hdd is detected. I auto partition it (A,Q keys), then set default directory layout (A,Q keys). Next I choose minimal installation. Then finally land on "Choose installation media" screen. I choose CD/DVD. Hit Enter. The message box appears: "No CD/DVD device found!". In AHCI mode SATA DVD drive is not detected at installation media screen. In noRAID mode SATA hdd is not detected and I can not partition the drive (the installer stops before partition drive screen because it did not detect hdd drive). My hw setup: Asrock K10N78FullHD-hSLI R3.0 (Nvidia MCP78S chipset know also as Geforce 8200 with current bios) mainboard. Seagate ST380013AS SATA1 drive Samsung SH-S223C SATA1 drive or Optiarc 7200S SATA1 drive. 2GiB RAM DDR2 800MHz CL4 AMD Phenom 9550 Audigy2 floppy 500W PSU Fix: Nvidia MCP78S chipset is classical AHCI SATA controller. Works very well on Linux - see open driver. All SATA DVD drives use ATAPI protocol over SATA bus. How-To-Repeat: Use 8.0-RELEASE-i386-dvd1.iso and boot it from SATA DVD drive on any Nvidia MCP78S (Geforce 8200) mainboard. The screen "Choose installation media" will tell you: "No CD/DVD device found!".
