Description savvas 2010-04-21 15:40:01 UTC
The vectorized logo (SVG) appears broken in browsers (such Chromium and Firefox 3.6) and when opened with Inkscape. The reason is that it contains Adobe-restricted extensions, which fail to make it show or to be rendered appropriately.

There is a new version that was edited by Robert Andersson (streambag at streambag.se):
- http://streambag.se/files/freebsdlogo.svg

freebsdlogo.svg does not appear correctly in browsers directly. However, it is rendered to png as an exact replica of the freebsd logo. It also appears great in Inkscape.

Fix: http://streambag.se/files/freebsdlogo.svg

Note: I do not know the license of freebsdlogo.svg -- Please consult the person who edited it [Robert Andersson (streambag at streambag.se)].

Patch attached with submission follows:
How-To-Repeat: A. Direct file opening
- Download http://www.freebsd.org/logo/logo-basic.svg
- Open it with a browser that has native svg support (firefox, opera, chromium).
- The colours of the logo appear "brownish" and nothing like the freebsd logo.

B. Inkscape
- Download http://www.freebsd.org/logo/logo-basic.svg
- Open it with inkscape.
- The colours of the logo appear "brownish" and nothing like the freebsd logo.

Hi!

While I would assume that you don't need my permission to use the
modified logo, I claim no copyright for my modifications. You are
certainly free to use the modified version for any purpose.

Best regards,

Robert

Screenshot of Safari 9 showing the SVG version of streambag.se

This bug is still present in browsers such as Safari 9 and Chromium 46. The attached screenshots shows how it looks in Safari (it looks the same in Chromium). The "fixed" version of streambag.se looks different, but is still far from correct.

logo.html now longer lists SVG variants but the archive from FF[1] only has JPEG, PNG, EPS, PDF[1]. Converting PDF to SVG via Inkscape exhibits comment 4 issue. However, streambag's version renders fine with librsvg but exhibts comment 5 issue with Firefox.

Did the project give up on SVG logo?
