I have an ATI Radeon HD 4650 on an amd64 machine. I am using xorg with xf86-video-ati-6.14.2. I have 2 monitors running at resolution 1920x1200. When I run startx all works fine. However, if I exit my X session and run startx again then the kernel crashes and the system reboots.

Do you still experience this problem with recent versions of FreeBSD, xorg-server, and xf86-video-ati driver? Note that DRM support had moved out of the base system/kernel to the `graphics/drm-*-kmod' and `graphics/gpu-firmware-kmod' ports. Your report was against 8.2-RELEASE which went of out support long time ago. Please update to contemporary, supported FreeBSD version before reconducting your tests. Adding x11@ to CC list so it can be tracked while originally filed under base system/kern.
I am afraid I no longer have the ATI Radeon HD 4650 card. Xorg has been stable for ages on the machines I have access to at the moment (xf86-video-intel driver). Feel free to close this issue. Thanks, Patrick
