When selecting ZFS filesystem when partitioning disks, the installation will fail on subsequent steps - something about invalid arguments on mount.

ZFS isn't supported in the standard install process. You need to follow 
a procedure similar to http://people.freebsd.org/~swills/gptzfsroot.txt 
to install onto ZFS.
