The i386 flavour of FreeBSD 9.0-RC3 panics (page fault) when booting on a machine with 4 GiB of RAM _and_ mfsroot is being used. An initial message saying "524288K of memory above 4GB ignored" is displayed, then some text which I can't capture (scroll lock is dead) and finally a page fault panic with CPU context dump. Screenshot attached. Fix: Unknown. However: Problem is reproducible both with FreeBSD bootloader and with GNU GRUB. This would make me think it's more likely to be a kernel bug than a bootloader bug. Patch attached with submission follows: How-To-Repeat: fetch http://d-i.debian.org/daily-images/kfreebsd-i386/20111217-00:10/netboot-9/debian-installer/kfreebsd-i386/initrd.gz gzip -d < initrd.gz > /boot/mfsroot cat >> /boot/loader.conf << EOF mfsroot_load="YES" mfsroot_type="mfs_root" mfsroot_name="/boot/mfsroot" EOF reboot
