On re-boot after installing FreeBSD 9.0 (with the installation CD removed, of course), BIOS reports (I paraphrase) no bootable disk or defective drive. If I subsequently reboot the installation CD, take the <shell> option in the install program, and use the disklabel program, first with '-w', and then with '-B', and then reboot (after removing the CD), the system boots, but not correctly (at least not as I would expect) because the "boot:" prompt apppears.
Found work-around: Had been using 'Guided' mode and trying to use the entire disk, but decided to use a partition this go-round. Created a DOS partition, and then a freeBSD partition and edited it manually. Finished the installation, removed the CDROM, re-booted, and freeBSD/amd64 came up just as pretty as you please. Must be something peculiar about the hardware configuration on the amd64 system; I don't know. I had no trouble at all installing freeBSD/i386 on another computer.
Responsible Changed From-To: freebsd-amd64->freebsd-sysinstall reclassify.
