After several attempts, including disabling ACPI, twiddling BIOS settings, etc. I am unable to install 9.0 on my Dell Dimension E510, which has in the past run FreeBSD, OpenBSD, Windows, and several flavors of Linux. Booting the same system with a FreeBSD 8.2 install CD yields the expected SATA drives. The problem seems to be that none of the SATA disks are detected, despite the controller being enumerated, and hence there is nowhere to install FreeBSD (see attached dmesg output, from verbose boot with ACPI disabled). Fix: Patch attached with submission follows: How-To-Repeat: - Boot the system using the FreeBSD 9.0 i386 install CD. - Enter the shell - Issue the dmesg command and look for SATA drives detected in the output
