Using a dozen epair devices can be awkward. It would be preferable if there were some way to name the devices. The prefix should remain "epair" but everything after that should be able to be specified.

epair_a_asterisk/epair_b_asterisk

ifconfig epair create namea _a_asterisk nameb _b_asterisk

I think either ifconfig name or the new jail management config file
should be used.  So you have any other uses cases that really need
special magic?

Feedback timeout over 5 years. Also, now we have both of interface renaming and interface descriptions doable with ifconfig(8).
