update.freebsd.org does not include 10.1-RC4/ to-10.1-RC4/ directories FTP site includes tar files for the base system. ftp://ftp.freebsd.org/pub/FreeBSD/releases/amd64/10.1-RC4 ftp://ftp.freebsd.org/pub/FreeBSD/releases/amd64/amd64/ISO-IMAGES/10.1/ freebsd-update outputs the following: Fetching metadata signature for 10.1-RC4 from update6.freebsd.org... failed. There are no announce for -RC4 on official site. Why do you want to upgrade to version that isn't currently listed?
https://www.freebsd.org/releases/10.1R/schedule.html "RC4 builds begin * 29 October 2014 30 October 2014 Fourth release candidate." would indicate it's ready for consumption, plus the files are available off the ftp server. Both make it "officialish" for me. I've submitted a couple of vt terminal issues and was intending to test them against RC4. If they continue to be an issue, I intended to update them. Why now? Well, it's easier to do an upgrade on Saturday and Sunday than during the week.
Build begins != build finished, I think this is problem.
(In reply to Anton Sayetsky from comment #3) > Build begins != build finished, I think this is problem. And announce is finally here: http://lists.freebsd.org/pipermail/freebsd-stable/2014-November/080872.html So you can try to update again and if this succeeds - PR should be closed.
The bits are all in their places.
