"the stable cvsup target is built from the latest official RELEASE with the addition of critical bug fixes." I'd say it's not entirely accurate fixing just the VCS name. Stable also includes minor bug fixes and new features. And it would be useful to define what "stable" actually means, a stable ABI. As a first pass: "Stable" is the branch where development continues after a RELEASE, including bug fixes and new features. The ABI is kept stable for binary compatibility.
