Description Slawomir Wojciech Wojtczak 2015-04-23 08:03:14 UTC
The top(1) man page does not describe VCSW, IVCSW, READ, WRITE, FAULT and PERCENT columns (press 'm' in launched top).

The top(1) does not come with and command option to launch it in 'm' mode (for example -m option).

vermaden

Dirty workaround (no live display):

# echo 'm' | top
Comment 2 Slawomir Wojciech Wojtczak 2015-04-23 09:02:10 UTC
Ok, my fault, top -m io does the thing, that leaves the problem to man page.
Comment 3 Christian Sturm 2017-03-06 10:59:18 UTC
For the man page. The descriptions can be found in getrusage(2).

That's where top (1) takes the information from. It should at least
be referenced in the SEE ALSO section, but better described in the
THE DISPLAY section as well.

If I have time next weekend I can take a look at this, but I can't
promise. Would be great if this could be done who maybe has more
insight or time.

A commit references this bug:

Author: eadler
Date: Mon May 21 00:20:32 UTC 2018
New revision: 333948
URL: https://svnweb.freebsd.org/changeset/base/333948

Log:
top(1): add getrusage to SEE also

This documents the various columns that top might support.

I've added a ref to getruage to see also. Replicating information is just going to lead to at least one of the manual pages becoming stale.
