same here today, see error below. Failing on CURRENT ( FreeBSD 11.0-CURRENT #14 r294484: Thu Jan 21 05:56:21 CET 2016 amd64). Set LANG to en_US.UTF-8 and try again.
I still get this same build failure. (In reply to MikeH from comment #3) I was able to fix this with some effort. I thought I would post my results for anyone else that hits this again. Note: I got here originally with the texlive-full port and not just the tex-xetex port. I deinstalled all tex* ports. Find them with "pkg info tex\*". I deleted all the /usr/local/share/texmf* directories. I re-fetched the ports tree with "portsnap fetch extract". Made sure to clean any previous failed builds. I used "portsclean -CD". Then I reinstalled the whole mess with "make install" on the texlive-full port again. This got everything to build and install. Apparently some update had messed up these ports and it took re-doing them all from scratch to get them to install/update correctly.
