I doubt if the problem is with the geany port. Geany provides desktop entry (installed to /usr/local/share/applications/geany.desktop), which contains info about supported file types, it's up to DE how to use this info. I'm sure XFCE supports desktop entries, but I don't use it myself. I pass this PR to xfce@ team.
The port seems to be okay here on 10.3-STABLE. Depending on the file type, geany appears as either the "Open With" at the top of the menu, or in the secondary Open With menu. This works for .txt and .py files, others too, and on the desktop or from Thunar. geany-1.25 xfce-4.12_1
Xfce supports specs of freedesktop.org's menus through sysutils/garcon. I don't understand, why it should be assigned to the Xfce team. I already observed some .desktop files not displayed in Xfce's menu, in rare cases (it was/is clearly problem from garcon, and this bug is still present in development release), but here I doubt. If shamil could at least give more information.
Hi, This problem still exist?
Taking this as the maintainer of the geany port. I just stumbled on this. I do see Geany in XFCE in the Devel submenu. I also have options to open files with geany in context menus. Is this still an issue or can this bug be closed? Thanks.
Working on 11.1-stable here, also. Geany appears under the Development menu and as an "Open With" option for *.txt files.
Looks like the problem solved itself with time. Closing bug.
