Description Herbert J.Skuhra 2000-08-29 15:50:00 UTC
When I installed FreeBSD 4.1-RELEASE last week all my three hard drives where detected correctly. After upgrading to 4.1-STABLE on 25.08.2000 (cvsup, all steps followed as described in UPDATING) only two disk drives are found, ata0-slave is missing.
Downgrading the kernel sources < 23.08.2000 solves the problem and brings back my ata0-slave drive.

I can confirm this bug:
http://www.freebsd.org/cgi/query-pr.cgi?pr=20924

AMD K6/3 350 MHz
64Mb RAM

from dmesg:
atapci0: <AcerLabs Aladdin ATA33 controller> port 0xffa0-0xffaf irq 0 at
device 15.0 on pci0
ad0: 8063MB <SAMSUNG SV0844A> [16383/16/63] at ata0-master using UDMA33
ad1: 14664MB <IBM-DJNA-351520> [29795/16/63] at ata0-slave using UDMA33

recent RELENG_4 fails to detect ad1. Resolved by reverting to
2000.08.21.00.00.00

Exact same problem, ata0-slave not even mentioned if I 'boot -v'

This was freebsd-stable as of 28th August 2000
as previously mentioned, rolling back source tree to 21/08/00 fixed this.

Bog standard P133 , 32Mb RAM, Aladdin socket 7 motherboard.
Primary master is 8.5 Gb IDE .

Secondary IDE channel disabled, both in BIOs and kernel
(i.e ata1)
