Description joeb1 2016-06-21 12:57:46 UTC
Using vt graph mode as the default console driver effects every 11.0 user. It completely changes the FreeBSD experience. It's detrimental to the public relations and the professional image of FreeBSD to publish the 11.0-RELEASE using vt with it's current default setting of graph mode.

In graph mode the look of everything shown on the console is different than what the user is accustomed to seeing and when switching between virtual consoles there is a 4 second hesitation.

vt should default to hw.vga.textmode=1 mode to be consistent with previous RELEASE versions of FreeBSD in what the console display looks like to the user. Text mode returns the console behavior look and feel to be just like the (sc(4) console and the hesitation when switching between virtual consoles no longer happens.

Can you please submit a separate PR for this issue with specific hardware details. This is not reproducible on any of my hardware -- there is no perceptible delay when switching virtual terminals.
