Description Andrej Zverev freebsd_committer 2017-09-01 11:53:07 UTC
I have Huawei RH1288 V3 server which wont work with vt(4).

Is anything I can do for troubleshooting?

Please provide detail of the failure - how far does the boot get? Are you using serial, video, a combination of consoles? Also please test setting hw.vga.textmode=1

Hello Ed,

Output missed right just after kernel is loaded and boot proccess start "Booting...".

I'm using server virtual console, Java client and Hi1710 (BMC) chipset.
vgapci0@pci0:6:0:0:     class=0x030000 card=0x00000000 chip=0x171119e5 rev=0x01 hdr=0x00
    vendor = 'Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd.'
    device = 'Hi1710 [iBMC Intelligent Management system chip w/VGA support]'
    class      = display
    subclass   = VGA

If i'm put hw.vga.textmode=1 into loader.conf i can see boot proccess without any issue. Maybe default screen resolution is too high for Hi1710, i'll check.

I'd like to add my personal experience with Huawei RH2288 V3 machines to this report. I can confirm that the same behavior is present on most Huawei servers on this family and manually setting hw.vga.textmode=1 at loader prompt during the installation and setting it in /boot/loader.conf after installation solved the problem.
