What kind of feedback do you expect for the patchless PR? :-) Yes, I'm aware there's a new version, I'll update the port soonish(tm) once I have enough spare time cycles and there are no regressions.
Comment 3 kunda 2020-01-02 13:22:00 UTC
1.8.2 is current stable

please update
Comment 5 Daniel Engberg freebsd_committer freebsd_triage 2020-03-16 17:10:00 UTC
Close? It's not a bug report and portscout will notify maintainers about new releases.

Nah, leave it: having it opened helps me to remember that I need to update the port soonish. :-)
Comment 7 Nezos 2020-12-03 14:58:38 UTC
Current available version 0.7.2 crashes with Bus Error caused by character encoding format of music files. This error has been addressed in the new versions.
Comment 8 Alexey Dokuchaev freebsd_committer freebsd_triage 2020-12-04 03:19:38 UTC

Yeah, I'm aware of that (that's why I'm still running 0.6.2 on one machine). Hopefully I'll get my hands on the port in coming days, sorry for delay.

May I ask to fix the bug? It was annoying when I started using FreeBSD on desktop in 2017. I no longer use deadbeef, but it would be nice if new users won't be annoyed by this.

I also added USE_XORG, because deadbeef can't build on Wayland-only environments (e.g. no libGL no libx{11,xb}.

Build/runtime tested on FreeBSD 14 sway GTK3 + poudriere.

Patches to version 0.7.2 I have created two years ago, original bug report:

Alexey, any progress on this one?

> Alexey, any progress on this one?
Yes, but there are some Makefile changes (options-related) which I want to commit prior to the update. Should not take long I hope.
Comment 14 Ivan Rozhuk 2023-04-28 10:23:00 UTC
Time to update: it broken with ffmgeg 6.0.
Upstream has 1.95.
Comment 15 kunda 2023-07-29 13:34:35 UTC
Current upstream release is 1.9.5
Anyone able to update?

Yes, but it doesn't mean we'd be skipping 1.8.x, stay tuned!
Comment 17 Daniel Engberg freebsd_committer freebsd_triage 2024-05-11 10:50:09 UTC
Should we consider this as stalled given it's been years "in progress" by now possibly return it to the poll?
Comment 18 Ivan Rozhuk 2024-05-11 11:35:05 UTC
(In reply to Daniel Engberg from comment #17)

I had try 1.9.6, there is broken OSS (crash with division by zero), looks like they change API and do not update OSS code.

If FreeBSD foundation will sponsor this I can refactor OSS and update this port, but looks like they ignore me and do not respond even for CoC emails :)
Comment 19 Alastair Hogge 2024-05-12 03:21:11 UTC
I am still incapacitated, however, would it inappropriate to have an updated 1.9.6 patch attached to this bug report, at least to allow others to participate in testing, and developing?

I have been fiending for a decent music player on FreeBSD for decades, I was never (first tried in 2019/2020) able to build deadbeef from the Ports (the joys and tribulations of running -CURRENT), tho, I still would like to try using it one day.

+1 for a patchfile
I'm happy to test and assisting to get it working. I have 13.3-R & 14.1-R buildhosts and desktop systems available.

(In reply to Ivan Rozhuk from comment #18)
Sorry if it's awkward/inappropriate to ask, but what amount of sponsoring (ballpark figures) are we talking about? I'd be happy to chime in if some kind of "public sponsoring" is on the table...

I've been using DeadBeef for 10+ years now, would be sad to see it vanish from ports as I really don't want to switch to some bloated "wants to do it all"-player...

Update to 1.9.6: https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=280441

Tested on amd64, OSS and pulse audio works correctly.
