Description Olexandr Davydenko 2019-04-27 18:40:12 UTC
newsyslog include all from directories /etc/newsyslog.conf.d/ and /usr/local/etc/newsyslog.conf.d/ including files that do not need to be processed - e.g. previous versions with .bak suffix or temporary disabled by renaming.

Better to change the default /etc/newsyslog.conf to include only *.conf files instead of all by replacing
<include> /etc/newsyslog.conf.d/*
<include> /usr/local/etc/newsyslog.conf.d/*
with:
<include> /etc/newsyslog.conf.d/*.conf
<include> /usr/local/etc/newsyslog.conf.d/*.conf

(Already in 12.x+ via r340318.)

This has landed in 13.0, and likely won't go in 11.x or 12.x, so I think this ticket can be closed.

Quarterly reminder that this can be closed as Overcome by Events ;)
