Netdata version 1.13 has been broken for several months. The aggregate overview of the key system metrics has no Net Inbound, Net Outbound, Disk Read or Used Swap data showing for the EasyPieChart widgets under the System Overview section of the default Netdata page.
Inspired by this page (https://github.com/netdata/netdata/pull/5149/files/38bccf6bc016ad665a60e0adbea777b00f195b45), I installed Netdata 1.14 in /opt, modified the DEFAULT_PHYSICAL_INTERFACES list to include vmx* network interfaces and did get net inbound and net outbound data to show.
Note that the system overview easyPieChart widgets work perfectly in versions prior to 1.13 on FreeBSD.
It also does not matter whether one is running FreeBSD 12.x or 11.x, situation is the same.
Please submit a bugreport to upstream and/or make a PR
Just checked netdata-1.15.0 on 12.0-RELEASE-p; the changes suggested here (https://github.com/netdata/netdata/pull/5149/files/38bccf6bc016ad665a60e0adbea777b00f195b45) are in play. The only thing missing is the vmx* wildcard for the vmxnet3 nic in line 147 of the collectors/freebsd.plugin/freebsd_getifaddrs.c file which when added as shown below, results in the Net Inbound and Net Outbound EasyPieCharts working as expected.
#define DEFAULT_PHYSICAL_INTERFACES "igb* ix* cxl* em* ixl* ixlv* bge* ixgbe* vtnet* vmx*"
Please note that the use of the E1000 network driver in FreeBSD is handled by the em* interface, but without the addition of the vmx* wildcard, the vmxnet3 nic will be ignored.
I would consider this ticket closed once the maintainer adds the "vmx*" wildcard to line 147 of the freebsd_getifaddrs.c file.
I reported this issue to the upstream:
Fixed in 1.18.1
Patch updating netdata to 1.18.1 can be found here:
1.19.0 is now in ports so this can be closed (r518840)
