The latest version of cinnamon desktop available in FreeBSD in 2.4. Kindly upgrade Cinnamon Desktop to latest version.
I am in the middle of working on that update, but there is more work than you think. In the meantime, you can run Cinnamon 4.0 from the freebsd-ports-gnome (gnome@ development) repository.
Thanks for your reply. Can you point me to a web-resource from where I can know that how to install version 4.0 from that gnome-repo?
Are you sure that it is version 4.0, because it says version 2.4 https://github.com/freebsd/freebsd-ports-gnome/tree/master/x11/cinnamon or may be I am at wrong place!
You are looking at the master branch; there is a separate cinnamon branch. Eventually 4.2 will end up there as well, before merging.

Thanks. Tomorrow I will give it a try.
I am trying to clone this repo by using command: git clone https://github.com/freebsd/freebsd-ports-gnome/tree/cinnamon/x11/cinnamon But it says "fatal: repository not found". Am I doing something wrong here?
Is there any plan to add (updated) Cinnamon Desktop to FreeBSD?
(In reply to Zetro Track from comment #8) Currently dogfooding 4.8. Unfortunately, the bugs are piling up a bit: - cinnamon-screensaver still needs (reconciliation) work with our OpenPAM (they assume/expect Linux-PAM) - nemo{,-desktop} no longer runs, crashes on startup I've been extremely short on time for anything major (ie other than version bumping the port Makefiles), but things should open up for the next few weeks. Additionally, because the delta between the gnome@ devel repo and the vanilla ports tree has gotten so big, combined with my lack of commit access there, I've had to stop updating the associated pull request. My work has always pretty much lived in a separate mercurial repo (based from hg-beta)
Thanks for such a detailed answer :-)
Please refer to bug 249856 for the patch.
