After a recent update, my system locked up when attempting to switch from vga to fb. The screen and does not ever proceed. Since the network is not yet up and the system is still single user, I have been able to get more information. I bisected to find that 359957 was the culprit. If is possible that this is a drm issue that was hidden before this change, so I will post a note about this to x11. I have seen reports on x11@ of problems with systems locking up with blank screens, so this might tie into those. My system is an old T520 with Sandy Bridge GPU. Let me know what other information I might be able to obtain.
Just to make sure, you did rebuild the drm port after that change, right? (Yes, I see that __FreeBSD_version was bumped to force that.)
(In reply to Yuri Pankov from comment #1) How embarrassing! That was it. I have preached the importance of adding ports kernel modules to PORTS_MODULES, but did not add drm-kmod or drm-fbsd12.0-kmod. I will close the ticket.
