Description Marko Cupać 2020-06-24 19:18:09 UTC
Hi,

According to official ISC page:
https://www.isc.org/download/

...bind911 is "current-stable,esv", supported until December 2021, which is year and a half from now.

Could you please remove incorrect and misleading message about port being deprecated and end of life?

Thank you in advance.

The message is correct, it is telling you "this is getting old and in a mere 18 months it will be gone."

(In reply to Mathieu Arnold from comment #1)

I guess I have to take your word for it, as you maintain and commit this port.

But to me, and I presume to many, this message is telling "you should think twice before installing this port, as software it provides has _already_ reached end of life, and port itself will be removed on or after 2021-12-31."

Perhaps it would be clearer, and more correct, if Makefile line for deprecated was:

DEPRECATED= EOL date 2021-12-31, please migrate to a newer version of BIND9 until then

Regards,

The message that is displayed when you install or upgrade the port already contains all this information:

> This port is deprecated; you may wish to reconsider installing it:
> End of life, please migrate to a newer version of BIND9.
> It is scheduled to be removed on or after 2021-12-31.
