Package servers are geo-mirrored and there appears to be a problem with the mirror closest to me. There doesn't appear to be a way to easily switch mirrors. Symptom: -------- root@acme2:~ # pkg update Updating FreeBSD repository catalogue... pkg: http://pkgmir.geo.freebsd.org/FreeBSD:12:amd64/quarterly/meta.txz: Not Found repository FreeBSD has no meta file, using default settings pkg: http://pkgmir.geo.freebsd.org/FreeBSD:12:amd64/quarterly/packagesite.txz: Not Found Unable to update repository FreeBSD Error updating repositories! Mirror affected: ---------------- I'm situated in Western Australia. The mirror closest to me appears to be in Malaysia: FreeBSD.org ftp server This is ftp0.kul.FreeBSD.org - a Malaysian mirror for FreeBSD downloads. It is generously hosted by the Malaysian Research & Education Network near Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. This server's contents: Current FreeBSD ftp data FreeBSD.org home
Also seeing this in Sydney, Australia. Updating FreeBSD repository catalogue... pkg: http://pkg.freebsd.org/FreeBSD:13:amd64/latest/meta.txz: Not Found repository FreeBSD has no meta file, using default settings pkg: http://pkg.freebsd.org/FreeBSD:13:amd64/latest/packagesite.txz: Not Found Unable to update repository FreeBSD Error updating repositories!
Interestingly manually using http://pkg0.kul.freebsd.org/ seems to work OK, so not an issue with the mirror itself.
(In reply to Jethro Nederhof from comment #2) That is interesting! Looks like an issue with redirection.
GeoDNS issues, people are working on it.
I made a typo in the Geo-DNS earlier. Sorry about that. It should be fixed but it might take a while before it starts sending you to Malaysia again. Thank you for reporting this.
(In reply to Philip Paeps from comment #5) Thank you!
