First fail message

Steps to produce with VirtualBox (I haven't tried a non-virtual box install)

1. Create VM. 4GB RAM 16MB Vido RAM VBoxVGA 20GB IDE Primary Device vdi image OSS audio ICH AC97 network Intel PRO/1000 MT Desktop (NAT).

(this is the same config that I've used with 9/10/11/12/13 without problems).

2. Boot off the dowloaded ISO
In this case
FreeBSD-14.0-CURRENT-amd64-20220127-2c449a4c5a3-252673-disc1.iso
but I've been having this problem for months

3. Select Install

4. Change the keymap to United Kingdom

5. Set the hotname to 'freebsd'

6. SELECT AL THE PACKAGES

7. OK for the dialog saying packages not found locally

8 OK for the Intel NIC

9. Yes for IPV4

10. Yes for DHCP

(lease acquired)

11. Yes for IPv6

12. Yes for SLAAC

13 accept defaults for dns

14. Auto UFS

15. Entire Disk and Yes then MBR

16 Finish

17. Commit

18 leave the default download site as ftp://ftp.freebsd.org

A seroes of errors for the packages is next.

Hi, this might be a partial duplicate of an earlier bug.

If I recall correctly, some of what is selectable (in the installer) is simply not available; not applicable.

Selectors are quite generic.

I see all of the optional components here

http://ftp.freebsd.org/pub/FreeBSD/snapshots/amd64/14.0-CURRENT/

Are they not the ones that the installer is failing to fetch?
Comment 6 Paul Floyd 2022-02-23 11:08:14 UTC
Has anyone tried to reproduce this?

In the git history the dist fetch was refactored in commit

5a4dffac60014e883092ed7f133c8ecd198f2b24

in May 2021

Thank you for the report and the screenshots.

I had the same problem some month ago (I forgot if on hardware or VM, similar to your configuration), now it seems solved (probably by the commit you pointed).

However, please could you reinstall avoiding "auto UFS"?, I re-had the problem with the fetching some day ago, solved restarting the VM and with "Manual" partitioning.

The last few times I've done installs this all worked properly.
