This vt newcons bug is old, help-seeking users regularly complain about it on the FreeBSD forums, and I just don't understand why the bug still is there. When used in graphics mode, switching from xorg to vt newcons results in a display of colored boxes. When used in text mode (hw.vga.textmode=1), vt newcons is usable when switching to console. But, after exiting xorg, vt newcons fails until user switches between consoles using ALT-Fn, which makes vt newcons work again.
(In reply to Stefan B. from comment #0) > … complain about it on the FreeBSD forums, … Please, can you link to one of the complaints? With a photograph, ideally.
See the photo in this forums post. https://forums.freebsd.org/threads/can-not-suspend-system-automatically-wake-up.83300/post-547534 Of course, the blocks pattern slightly varies, depending what is in the buffer.
