Description Graham Perrin freebsd_committer freebsd_triage 2022-08-14 15:05:59 UTC
<https://www.freebsd.org/publish/> is obscure (I stumbled into it via <https://www.freebsd.org/copyright/daemon/>); it's not linked from its sidebar, and so on.

> … bibliography. …

* refers to <https://docs.freebsd.org/en/books/handbook/#bibliography>
            (a non-existent anchor; results in the front page)

* should refer to <https://docs.freebsd.org/en/books/handbook/bibliography/>

Random pick: Absolute BSD (Michael W Lucas), there's a generic link to (outdated, HTTP) <http://www.nostarch.com/>, <https://mwl.io/nonfiction/os#af3e> would be better (more options than No Starch Press alone).

Notable omissions from the page include … drum roll …

FreeBSD Journal
<https://freebsdfoundation.org/our-work/journal/>

FreeBSD Mastery: Advanced ZFS
<https://mwl.io/nonfiction/os#fmaz>

… and so on.

For what it's worth, I shouldn't pay too much attention to updating this page until after there's a sense of the new design for the site; <https://www.freebsd.org/status/report-2022-04-2022-06/#_freebsd_website_revamp_webapps_working_group>.

% cd /usr/doc
% git branch
* main
  patch-1
  patch-7
% grep -R "FreeBSD Daemon" .
./website/content/ru/publish.adoc:|image:../../gifs/daemon.gif[FreeBSD Daemon,width=80,height=76] a|
./website/content/es/publish.adoc:|image:../../../gifs/daemon.gif[FreeBSD Daemon,width=80,height=76] a|
./website/content/en/publish.adoc:|image:../gifs/daemon.gif[FreeBSD Daemon,width=80,height=76] a|
./website/content/nl/publish.adoc:|image:../../gifs/daemon.gif[FreeBSD Daemon,width=80,height=76] a|
%

The alt text for this image should be BSD Daemon (not FreeBSD Daemon).

Please feel free to work with your mentor to update it. Thanks!
Comment 3 Graham Perrin freebsd_committer freebsd_triage 2023-01-02 03:44:03 UTC
<https://docs.freebsd.org/en/books/> begins:

> Explore a comprehensive list of FreeBSD books.

It's not comprehensive.

(Technically, it's something like a list of AsciiDoc documents that have doctype book. (This is uncertain, because (bug 265276) the book of FAQ does not behave like a book.))

We can improve this by:

* not describing the list as comprehensive
* including a link to <https://www.freebsd.org/publish/>.

(In reply to Sergio Carlavilla Delgado from comment #4)

> Moved to the handbook list

Please, can you clarify?

For tracking purposes; a URL will help.

Also, please note that it's customary to take a report when closing.
