The new version of the sysutils/xdg-desktop-portal port calls into libfuse3 with "-o auto_unmount" flag. This flag doesn't seem to be supported, as the software errors out on that call.

Would it be possible to implement it?

Not sure.  I've never looked into that.  But it doesn't sound too hard.
